A hacker said they purloined personal details from millions of OpenAI accounts-but scientists are doubtful, and the business is investigating.
OpenAI states it's examining after a hacker claimed to have swiped login qualifications for 20 countless the AI company's user accounts-and put them up for sale on a dark web online forum.
The pseudonymous breacher published a puzzling message in Russian advertising "more than 20 million gain access to codes to OpenAI accounts," calling it "a goldmine" and using possible buyers what they claimed was sample information containing email addresses and passwords. As reported by Gbhackers, the full dataset was being sold "for simply a couple of dollars."

If legitimate, this would be the third major security occurrence for the AI company because the release of ChatGPT to the general public. OpenAI takes it 'seriously'
In a statement shown Decrypt, an OpenAI spokesperson acknowledged the situation while maintaining that the business's systems appeared safe.
"We take these claims seriously," the spokesperson said, adding: "We have not seen any proof that this is connected to a compromise of OpenAI systems to date."
The scope of the supposed breach triggered concerns due to OpenAI's enormous user base. Millions of users worldwide rely on the business's tools like ChatGPT for service operations, instructional functions, and material generation. A legitimate breach might expose private discussions, commercial projects, and other sensitive data.
Until there's a final report, some preventive steps are always recommended:
